Useful Information for Fellow Armed Forces

Air Force medic

From Bootcamp to Life...

In 2017, I raised my right hand to join "The World's Greatest Air Force".

Little did I know the journey that lay ahead. I joined the Armed Forces for almost all selfish reasons:

  • To be a part of domestic and international humanitarian missions

  • To earn paid experience in the medical field

  • To decide whether I wanted to make a long-term military commitment before applying to their medical school scholarship program

  • And finally, to force my 'wanderlust self' to stay in the USA for my long-term romantic relationship (at the time)

I am a member of the Air Force - National Guard. Although it isn't exactly the "two weeks a year, one weekend a month" gig that I thought I signed up for (silly commercials). I've learned a lot and have gained valuable experience. With over two years of Active Duty time, not including the multiple mini-missions and trainings, I have a lot of information to offer to those in/ joining the Armed Forces.

Along with military/ medic training, I've completed the 4N0 (medic) training, an Associate of Science Degree at the Community College of the Air Force, Search and Extraction Medic courses, Tactical Combat Casualty Care courses, challenged the Nursing Board for a Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN) license, and maintained Emergency Medical Technician-Basic license along with Trauma Training certifications. I've been on federal, state, and 'state-activated-duty' orders. I've experienced BAH Type 1 vs BAH Type 2 and understand the benefits of orders 30 days and more. Hm... speaking of which, I also have ROTC experience from my university days. Be sure to subscribe to keep up with the info.

Currently, the only thing that I'm debating is whether or not to apply for the Nurse Practitioner Scholarship program through the Air Force. If accepted, I will be on my way to be able to talk to you all about the commissioned side of the fence. So, stay tuned. :)
